X&Y - Why? Engaging & Retaining staff

As one of Australia's leading Social Researchers, Mark McCrindle from McCrindle Reasearch gives an enlightening motivational talk to SkillsOne about Generation X and Y (under 25's) and recent social trends and statistics, and the relation and meaning between the two.

The 21st century is a fast moving, complex and demanding one, and for young people moving through trades and apprenticeships, it is a time of great opportunity.

McCrindle says that 2% of our labour force is experiencing a skills shortage. That is, there are 200,000 jobs - with no one to place in them - it's a significant number and needs to be addressed by employers.

This is a must-watch for all employers, especially those who are interested in attracting and keeping apprentices and trades-people - which is typically today's youth - in the job.

McCrindle advocates that when you've got a good work-life balance, a vibrant work-place culture, strong and stable management-employee relationships, good and ongoing training and variety and flexibility of job description then the retention rate will improve and we can begin to overcome the contemporary problem of constant staff turnover.
