1. The Fast and the Furious (2001)
Descibed as action, thriller, drama all in one, this flick will have you on the edge of your seat as an undercover cop infiltrates a subculture of Los Angeles street racers looking to bust a hijacking ring. But this film is really about relationships as the central character begins to question his loyalties when his new street racing friends become the prime suspects. An early start for Hollywood star Vin Diesel and lots of car and racing scenes.
2. The Big Steal (1990)
Alot can happen on the way to impressing a girl - especially if you buy an old Jaguar. A genuine 90s Aussie flick with enduring stars like Ben Mendelsohn, Claudia Karvan, Steve Bisley and Frankie J Holden.
3. Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)Another Hollywood Action Thriller with Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie and Robert Duvall. A retired master car thief must come back to the industry and steal 50 cars with his crew in one night to save his brother's life. Not exactly a model lifestyle...but we're told it takes the typical car chase to new levels! The cars on the old man's hit list are fine auto examples.
4. American Graffiti (1973)
A filmmaking classic on many levels. Starring Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford along with 1932 Ford coupe, 1955 Chevy, 1958 Chevy Impala, 1951 Mercury coupe, and the 1956 Ford Thunderbird as it traces a memorable last night of cruising for a group of high school friends. Probably rates as number 1 as far as classics go.
5. Duel (1971)
An early Steven Spieberg flick where a duel is about to begin between a man, a truck, and an open road. It's a life and death situation - hold onto your seat and your popcorn.
6. Mad Max (1979)
The Australian Ford Falcon is front and centre along with mel Gibson in one of his earlier films and the first major flick for director Dr George Miller. Easily goes down as one of Australia's finest flicks, a cultural icon of sorts.
7. Bullitt (1968)
Steve McQueen Jacqueline Bisset and Robert Vaughn star in a tale of all guts, no glory San Francisco cop becomes determined to find the underworld kingpin that killed the witness in his protection. Car fanatics have told us this film is hard to ignore.
8. The Italian Job (2003) This movie gives a plug for MINIs and other autos and is based on a 1969 Michael Caine film of the same name, thieves plan to pull of the heist of their lives by creating Los Angeles largest traffic jam ever. Stars Hollywood beauties Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg among others.
9. Days of Thunder (1990)
Considered an acting debacle for Nicole Kidman in her first film with future ex-husband Tom Cruise. But as far as cars go - how can you beat the noisy scenes and adrenalin of NASCAR racing?
10. Herbie Fully Loaded (2005)One for the kiddies you may think - but don't forget die hard Volkswagon enthusiasts! This movie is the same as the older ones of its ilk but with newer Hollywood starlets like Lindsey Lohan to interact with lovable old Herbie.
